ABSTRACT

Covid-19 pandemic modified traditional education system with introductions of many new-normals. Social distancing, isolation, use of information and communication technologies to support teaching and learning etc. are few needs to be mentioned. Lokmanya medical college of Physiotherapy is using online communication to support, sustain and enhance teaching and learning during Covid-19 pandemic. This study aims to explore point of view of physiotherapy students' on the advantages and disadvantages of online education experienced during Covid -19 pandemic. Students views will help to improve future conduction of online education and its success. Overall satisfaction and adaptation level of current online education was tested with help of self made questionnaire. Questionnaire was designed and validated with help of experts in the field and by conducting pilot study. Questionnaire was tested for reliability using Cronbach's alpha 0.91reading show high reliability. Purposive sampling was employed to ensure maximum participation. Total 117 physiotherapy students voluntarily responded questionnaire. Students reported higher efforts requirement during online sessions, this may be due to lack of typical environment, full of distraction while attending online sessions. However knowledge enhancement noted after online sessions, which enlighten need of online education during such pandemics to continue with teaching learning process. Teachers pledge and hard work towards betterment of education sector by providing well-timed online teaching was appreciated by students. Overall satisfaction of students warrants technology adaptation in physiotherapy curriculum to benefit all stakeholders of education sector in future.

ABSTRACT

COVID-19 may have lasting impact on how the future medical students are educated. These are unusual times, this pandemic presents practical and planning challenges and concerns for student, staff and patient safety, remembering and understanding that they may potentially spread the virus when asymptomatic and may acquire the virus in the course of interaction is crucial. This article discusses the current scenario of medical education, and explores preference of students for learning during COVID-19.With the help of a self-created questionnaire, 138 physiotherapy students responded for the study. All students showed enthusiasm for the future use of blended learning method but students almost equally preferred traditional learning. Hence it needs due consideration in education sector for future permanent implementation.

ABSTRACT

Aim: To study the efficacy of online pre-recorded practical demonstrations and live streamed practical demonstrations in Third year physiotherapy students during the COVID-19 pandemic- A survey Objectives: • To understand efficacy of online pre-recorded practical demonstrations • To understand the live streamed practical demonstrations • To compare live streamed practical demonstrations versus online pre-recorded practical demonstrations. Study Design: Cross Sectional Study Sampling method: Complete enumeration Sample size: All 44 Third B.P.Th students from TMV's Lokmanya Medical College of Physiotherapy, Navi Mumbai. Methodology: All 44 students of Third year B.P.Th from TMV's Lokmanya Medical college of Physiotherapy,Kharghar were enrolled for this study. Survey among students was done on pre-recorded videos and live demonstration conducted by the college as per the curriculum. Since this study was done in the COVID-19 pandemic the consent forms were mailed to the students. The practical topics to be covered during complete lockdown were taught by posting online videos of the said topic on Google classroom. The theory part of the concerned topics was taught via Zoom platform. The students were expected to go through the videos and practise their techniques at home. In the partial lockdown phase, students were allowed to visit the campus in batches of 5. During this time the practical topics were covered via live streaming. Voluntary consent was taken from each student. They were asked to fill a questionnaire regarding aspects of class experience, learning effect and evaluation of the teachers. Statistical Analysis: Data analysis done using Excel 2013 Results: Pre-recorded video is equally as effective as a live demonstration. However, students preferred live demonstration technique over pre-recorded videos. Each method has its own advantages and limitations, therefore both methods can be combined in teaching undergraduate physiotherapy courses in order to improve learning experiences and to match different learning preferences of students.
